Songs that Celebrate Adoption

Songs that Celebrate Adoption // In Our Pond // November is National Adoption Month // May is National Foster Care Month

May is National Foster Care month.  I started this post last November, but I was in the middle of the pre-Christmas series and never got it posted.   I did a "Songs of Adoption" post a few years ago, but today seemed like a good day to update it.  In honor of my blog anniversary, here are our favorite adoption songs.

When I was planning this post before Christmas, I put this one first.
This song always makes me cry.

"All I really want for Christmas is a family!"  Sob.

My kids LOVE this song!  It has a fun beat and is so singable.

"Love came and found me.  Wrapped arms around me.  I'm adopted!"

Becky has a lot of adoption songs, and "Child of My Heart"
is one that I picked for one of my children's adoption.

"You're the child of my love.  Specially chosen.  No accident."

One of my children asks for us to play this song quite often.
It's on the Narnia soundtrack, so it has meaning related to that movie.
It also works great for adoption.

"This is home.  And I'm finally where I belong...
I've been searching for a place of my own.  Now I found it."

This is a birth mother song to the adoptive parents.  Guaranteed to make you cry.

"My tears are falling because you've taken her away... take good care of my baby."

This is another one of Becky's songs that I've claimed for an adopted child.

"Call me loved.  Call me chosen and cherish."

I think this was the one of first adoption songs that I heard.  It's almost a classic now.

"When love takes you in, everything changes."

This lullaby is wonderful for biological and adopted kids.

It's a promise to your kids that you'll be there in the morning to take care of them.

"Close your eyes and have a good time dreaming,
Knowing you will never be alone- cause you are mine."

I don't think this is strictly an adoption song, but it is another lullaby.

It's a song.  It's a prayer.  It's the whisper of every mother as she looks at her sleeping child.

"May His hand bless your future with friendships that last.
May you cherish your youth and not grow up too fast."

Another lullaby for all children, not just adopted ones.

"Tiny dream come true.  The answer to prayer..."

I don't think this is an adoption song either, but it's a song from parent to child.

"You're the answer to all those midnight prayers."

This song was made famous by Tarzan, and isn't an adoption song either.

However I know many adoptive parents who relate to the lyrics.

"For one so small, you seem so strong.

My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm.
... Don't you cry."
