Montessori-Inspired Multiplication Board with Donuts
Did you know that June 1st is National Donut Day? To celebrate, I made a new Montessori-inspired printable. I have a lot of math printables already, so it was a bit challenging to think of something new to make. My kids were excited to hear that it would have something to do with donuts, though.
I ran across this picture on Pinterest, which links to a DIY wood version of the Montessori Multiplication board. I prefer printables, because I like to do different themes and it's easy to store several of them (look for more versions in the future).
The easiest way to use the printable is just to use a coffee stirrer or string to mark out the factors. The printable could also be laminated for use with a dry erase marker. The child can then count the donuts contained by the factors in the grid to find the product. I have also included 111 multiplication problem cards for the child to work through.

The board can also be used with donut erasers or beads to count out the product. I included a blank board for such uses. I have also added a 0-10 chart, as well as the 1-10 chart.
For a bit of fun, two children (or adults) could use dice to play an "area war" game. Each player would need their own color of marker (or laminate the printable and draw in the perimeter). The players then take turns rolling the 2 dice and marking out their territory. Who will have the larges product? Whose products will add up to the highest amount of land?
What other ways can you think to use the printables?
